Ein neuer, ungewohnter Zugang zu Karl Barth – die in diesem Bildband prasentierten Fotografien und Dokumente setzen den Theologen des Wortes Gottes in Szene. Die mehrheitlich unveroffentlichten Bilder aus dem Nachlass machen die wichtigen Stationen von Barths Biografie auf eine Weise anschaulich und lebendig, wie es Text allein nicht zu leisten vermag. Die einzelnen Kapitel – von Kindheit und Jugend uber Studium und erstes Pfarramt, Safenwil, Gottingen, Munster und Bonn nach Basel – zeigen das personliche und familiare Umfeld des jeweiligen Lebensabschnitts. Sie geben zugleich Einblicke in fur Barth wichtige zeitgeschichtliche und kirchliche Kontexte, in denen er oft eine wichtige Rolle spielte. Kurze Einfuhrungen zu jedem Kapitel bieten die wichtigsten Informationen zum biografischen und historischen Umfeld. Sie lassen aber den hier erstmals in dieser Fulle vereinten Bildquellen aus dem Karl Barth-Archiv den ihnen zukommenden Raum. Der Bildband erscheint im grosseren Format im Rahmen der Karl Barth-Gesamtausgabe als erster Band der Abteilung Aus Karl Barths Leben (Abt. VI) und zum Karl-Barth-Jahr 2019.
