Gegenwartige evolutionstheoretische Perspektiven untersuchen Religion hinsichtlich der Frage, wie sie evolutionar entstanden ist oder worin ihr evolutionarer Vorteil liegt bzw. ob Religion uberhaupt einen evolutionaren Vorteil darstellt (z. B. Pascal Boyer, Justin L. Barrett, Stewart E. Guthrie, David S. Wilson). Diese Arbeit bringt evolutionstheoretische Perspektiven demgegenuber noch einmal anders zur Sprache. Sie positioniert das biblische Sozialethos im Gegenuber zu evolutionar erfolgreichen Verhaltensweisen. Nachstenliebe gegenuber Fremden und Statusverzicht werden biblisch als gebotene Verhaltensweisen bestimmt gegenuber einem evolutionar erfolgreichen Verhalten der Sorge um die Erhohung der eigenen Uberlebens- und Reproduktionschancen zulasten anderer. Zugleich ist der Mensch aus der Perspektive einer evolutionaren Anthropologie Natur- und Kulturwesen, von archaischen Instinkten getrieben und zugleich lehr- und lernfahig. Er kann Narrative und Rituale entwerfen, die sein Verhalten jenseits archaischer Instinkte informieren. Christlicher Glaube ubt in diesem Sinn in Orientierung an der geglaubten Gute Gottes eine Wahrnehmung der Welt ein, wonach Lebensmoglichkeiten nicht gegeneinander ausgespielt zu werden brauchen, sondern miteinander entwickelt werden konnen. Er widerspricht damit evolutionar vorgepragten Verhaltens- und Wahrnehmungsstrukturen des Menschen (vgl. Soziobiologie, evolutionare Pschologie).
