English summary: Indo-European studies began with work undertaken by Friedrich Schlegel (1808). A few decades later Franz Bopp published the first introduction to the new subject with Part 1 of his “Comparative Grammar” (1833). Since then Indo-European studies have yielded a wealth of research material, from monumental works stretching to several volumes, to short elementary volumes; the last known book to be published was in 2007! The milestones in IEs almost two hundred year old history are the major works which were published at intervals almost a generation apart, beginning with Bopps book (1833f.), then August Schleichers “Compendium” (1st edition 1861) and Karl Brugmanns ever-popular seminal work “Grundriss” (1893 -1916), through to the great modern works such as T. V. Gamkrelidze and V. V. Ivanovs Indo-European and the Indo-Europeans which was first published in Russian (1964) then in English (1995). There are a large number of introductory books in this field of studies, the best possibly being by the American B. W. Fortson IV (2004). German description: Die Indogermanistik gibt es seit Friedrich Schlegel (1808). Wenige Jahrzehnte danach ist die erste Einfuhrung in dieses neue Fach erschienen, mit den ersten Teil von Franz Bopps “Vergleichende Grammatik” (1833). Von da an hat es eine Fulle von Darstellungen der Indogermanistik gegeben, von mehrbaendigen Monumentalwerken bis zu Elementarbaendchen; das letzte bisher bekannte Buch erschien 2007! Die Marksteine in dieser knapp zwei Jahrhunderte alten Geschichte sind die grossen Werke, die im Abstand jeweils einer Generation erschienen sind: nach Bopps Buch (1833f.) das “Compendium” von August Schlegel (1. Aufl. 1861) und der bis heute grundlegend gebliebene “Grundriss” von Karl Brugman (1893-1916); bis hin zu grossen Werken moderner Pragung, wie dem zuerst (1964) russisch, dann (1995) englisch erschienenen Buch von T. V. Gamkrelidze und V. V. Ivanov, “Indo-European and the Indo-Europeans”. Die Zahl der einfuhrenden Studienbuecher ist gross; wohl das beste stammt von dem Amerikaner B. W. Fortson IV (2004).
