Car il y a une parente de temperament entre l’auteur et son sujet: la France, la bonhomie, le plaisir, les femmes, mais aussi la litterature, on sait qu’Henri IV envoya de belles lettres d’amour a ” ses ” femmes, et meme des vers pour Gabrielle d’Estrees, que Dumas cite dans ce livre.De la meme serie des ” Grands Hommes en robe de chambre ” que le Cesar precedemment publie par Les Belles Lettres, Henri IV est inedit depuis 1866.
