The “scripture readings” by Tiemo Rainer Peters are short, reduced to the essential, and frequently provocative. He focuses on the Bible passages most relevant to salient issues for today’s readers. The author has therefore chosen a very direct approach to the texts. He approaches them as if they had just been written, which they were, in a certain sense, because they reach us only in terms of how they relate to our own experiences. For Peters this has to do with nothing less than the contours of contemporary faith, trying to find and articulate God in the challenges of the present time – as a “verb”. This is sometimes uncomfortable, frequently challenging, but always refreshing.
