English summary: Today the EKD (Protestant Church in Germany) regards the ordination of women as a consequence of Reformation baptismal theology, whereas around 1900, a female in the pulpit was hardly imaginable in Germany. The Protestant regional churches (Landeskirchen) were ultimately forced to rethink their understanding of gender roles in ordained ministry, once female theologians began to demand to be involved in Christian preaching as pastors. This study focusses on the developments within the Bavarian Regional Church and relates them to the German-wide discussion on the ordination of women. Extensive archival documentation has been analyzed through the lens of historical-theological Gender Research. The attached CD contains a sampling of yet unpublished sources on the history of women’s ordination in Bavaria from 1919-1975, thus allowing for further studies on this subject.
