Jean Marie R. Tillard (1927-000) was one of the most brilliant ecumenical theologians of the 20th-century Catholic Church. Tillard understood the ecumenical and opening offered by Vatican II, and worked tirelessly in conjunction with theologians from other churches. Jusqu’a la fin de sa vie, il sera en dialogue avec les anglicans, les disciples du Christ et les orthodoxes, et a Foi et Constitution, avec un eventail d’Eglises. Au sein de ces instances, ses nombreux working-papers stimuleront les discussions des commissions et laisseront son empreinte dans les textes d’accord. Par sa rigueur theologique, sa capacite a depasser les controverses et a ouvrir des horizons, Tillard a sans aucun doute contribue au rapprochement des Eglises et a leur dynamisme oecumenique.
