Herkunft und Profil paulinischer Agonmetaphorik

His metaphors have their origins in the allusions to Old Testament and early Jewish traditions in which agonistic metaphors had already been firmly linked to the tradition of the suffering of the righteous before Paul’s time. Paul also uses agonistic metaphors when alluding to local conditions. Using 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 as an example, the author shows that the Apostle creates metaphors by alluding to the local color of the Isthmian Games which took place every two years close to Corinth. So wird verstandlich, warum Paulus seinen Dienst in der Nachfolge des Gekreuzigten als apostolischen Agon charakterisieren kann und sich in seinem Einsatz fur das Evangelium mit seinen Gemeinden verbunden weiss. Den Erfahrungshorizont dieser Gemeinden hat Paulus im Blick, wenn er die agonistischen Metaphern in Anspielung auf ortliche Gegebenheiten formuliert. Der Autor zeigt anhand der ausfuhrlichen Aufnahme agonistischer Zusammenhange und Bilder in 1. Korinther 9,24-27, dass der Apostel hier auf das Lokalkolorit der Isthmischen Spiele anspielt, die alle zwei Jahre in der unmittelbaren Nahe von Korinth stattfanden. Die Lebendigkeit und Anschaulichkeit seiner Metaphern zeigen, dass er uber eigene Kenntnis der Agonistik und der Wettkampfe seiner Zeit verfugt hat. An den agonistischen Metaphern, die Paulus nicht selten gebraucht, zeigt sich ebenso, dass Theologie und Biographie, missionarische Sendung und personliche Erfahrung fur den Apostel eng zusammengehoren.
