The volume provides the reader with an overview of how certain aspects of the “Jewish Question” have been dealt with in the various Christian Churches of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in the first half of the 20th Century. The spectrum of thematic approaches ranges from analysing public support for antisemitic state policies and the promotion of extreme right political movements by church representatives, to investigating the transmission of both theological and secular antisemitic discourse in the public sphere, and up to emphasising individual and even institutional philosemitic actions. Considering the confessional specificity of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, most studies deal with Orthodox Churches, offering significant insight on their attitudinal patterns towards Jews.
