“Arbeit am Bild”, that is ‘labouring over the image’, was something that Christoph Schlingensief retrospectively declared the central aesthetic principle of his work. Indeed, his projects appear as machinery of image production as well as image destruction. This volume contextualises Schlingensief`s uvre from an interdisciplinary perspective. Thus, for the first time, Schlingensief’s productive relationship with tradition is extensively focused.
