Within the framework of studies on western Roman Liguria, the two villas of Sanremo have aroused intense interest since their discovery, as witnessed by the excavations conducted during the 20th century by leading figures such as Piero Barocelli and Nino Lamboglia, continued in subsequent years by the Archaeological Superintendency. However, an overall scientific study of the two complexes has been lacking until now: the remains of a sumptuous balneum annexed to a maritime villa in the Foce locality, several rooms pertaining to the pars fructuaria of another villa in the Bussana locality. The volume represents the synthesis of research, restoration and dissemination activities conducted for over a decade in close collaboration between the University of Genoa and the Ligurian Superintendency with the generous financial contribution of the Municipality of Sanremo.
