The plot of the Municipal Conference Centre of Thebes (MCCTh, 964,40 m2) lies on the NW foot of the Kadmeia hill, facing to the West on Loukas Bellos street and to the north on Ioannis Threpsiades street, opposite the Archaeological Museum of Thebes. The plot was excavated during the years 1993-1997, initially by the 1st Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, due to the well-preserved architectural relics of Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods and then by the 9th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. The area was continuously inhabited from Prehistoric to Byzantine/post-Byzantine period. In the south part of the plot the well-preserved Early Helladic (EH) apsidal House C was unearthed as well as humble structures of Middle Helladic (MH) period. MH relics were also unearthed on the center-east border of the plot. The Late Helladic (LH) III layer was attested in the south and central areas overlying or cutting into the EH and MH ones, underlying the Classical/Hellenistic layer and having been disturbed at places by the building activities in ancient Greek and Byzantine times. Early Mycenaean pottery was sparsely scattered in it. In the Mycenaean layer six lots were discerned, named Deposits I-VI.
