Cet ouvrage, codirige par Michel Redde et Siegmar von Schnurbein, rend compte des travaux menes par une equipe franco-allemande sur le site d’Alesia (Alise-Sainte-Reine, Cote d’Or, France) depuis 1991. Les premieres recherches, tres etendues, avaient eu lieu au XIXe siecle sous la direction de Napoleon III, revelant, dans ses grandes lignes, la topographie de la bataille de 52 avant J.-C. entre Cesar et Vercingetorix. Les nouvelles fouilles, menees en collaboration etroite par une equipe francaise et la Romisch-Germanische Kommission de Francfort, permettent de connaOEtre dans le detail l’architecture des travaux romains, d’apprehender l’environnement antique, de reetudier le materiel exhume au XIXe siecle a la lumiere des decouvertes recentes (monnaies, armes, petit equipement militaire, ceramique, faune…). L’ensemble du texte est en francais. Un CD-Rom interactif (utilisable directement sous Windows ou Mac OS) permet de consulter les photographies aeriennes patiemment rassemblees par R. Goguey depuis 40 ans.
