German description: Die 1932 am Westufer des Euphrats in Salihijeh (Syrien) ausgegrabene christliche Hauskirche des antiken Ortes Dura Europos aus dem Jahre 256/7 n.Chr. enthielt in ihrem Baptisterium verschiedene Fresken. Ulrich Mell widmet sich vornehmlich der Interpretation dieser Bilder, die neben den Malereien in den Katakomben der Stadt Rom zu den altesten christlichen Kunstwerken zahlen. Mell erlautert die Archaologie und Geschichte des christlichen Hauses von Dura Europos im Rahmen der politischen Geschichte des Ortes, der in der Mitte des 3. Jh. n.Chr. Die nur fragmentarisch erhaltenen Bilder der Taufkapelle werden ikonografisch besprochen. Da sie Texte aus dem Alten wie Neuen Testament ins Bild setzen, werden sie ikonologisch im biblischen Kontext interpretiert. Hinsichtlich der Interpretation des dreiteiligen Auferstehungszyklus’ mit funf Frauengestalten geht Ulrich Mell auf den neutestamentlichen Schriftenkanon der altsyrische Kirche ein. Dieser kennt im Unterschied zur westlich-romischen Tradition statt vier Evangelienbucher nur eine Evangelienharmonie, namlich das sogenannte Diatessaron des syrischen Kirchenvaters Tatian. Das Buch schliesst mit Uberlegungen, wie die heutige Neutestamentliche Wissenschaft mit der Pluralitat von vier Evangelienschriften umgeht, und stellt sich der historisch-literarischen Frage nach Frauen als Zeuginnen der Auferstehung Jesu Christi.
