Katalog zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung in der Herzog August Bibliothek vom 23.11.2008-7.6.2009 -broschierte Parallelausgabe nur in der Ausstellung erhaltlich.Sternbilder und Planeten regen Phantasie und Forscherdrang seit Jahrtausenden dazu an, dem Einfluss des Himmels auf das irdische Geschehen nachzugehen. Solange sich der Mensch im Mittelpunkt des Kosmos wahnte und sich alles um die Erde drehte, wurde der Einfluss der Sterne kaum in Zweifel gezogen. Dem Rat der Astrologen folgten Papste und Konige. Doch vor genau 400 Jahren begann mit der Erfindung des Teleskops und den damit moglichen Entdeckungen ein Umbruch: der Himmel wurde immer besser bekannt, die Erde verlor ihre Sonderstellung. Das neue Bild vom Himmel fuhrte zur Abkehr vom ganzheitlichen Weltbild, das im Mikrokosmos des Menschen ein Abbild des Makrokosmos sah. Astronomie und Astrologie, nach Kepler wie Mutter und Tochter innig verbunden, gingen von da an getrennte Wege. Die Ausstellung ist ebenfalls ein Projekt des “Internationalen Jahres der Astronomie 2009”. Mit dem Jahr der Astronomie soll die Begeisterung fur die Astronomie und die Beobachtung des Sternhimmels geweckt werden. Neben der astronomischen Beobachtung und dem Wunsch, moglichst vielen Menschen den Sternhimmel durch ein Fernrohr zu zeigen, soll wahrend des Astrojahrs auch in den verschiedensten Veranstaltungen die Bedeutung der Astronomie fur die Kultur und Gesellschaft deutlich werden.
