Walter Buhrer investigates the methodological presuppositions for a relative-dating of Old Testament texts. With Gen 1-3 as a test case he works with one of the most important texts in classical pentateuchal scholarship. Recent European scholarship tends more and more to post-date the non-priestly Eden narrative through comparison with priestly, deuteronomic-deuteronomistic and late wisdom texts. Buhrer, however, argues for a pre-priestly date of Gen 2-3 due to the lack of clear textual references to priestly texts. Walter Buhrer klart auf dem Hintergrund der gegenwartigen Pentateuchforschung anhand von Gen 1-3 die methodischen Voraussetzungen fur Thesen zur relativ-chronologischen Einordnung alttestamentlicher Texte. Er entwickelt in Auseinandersetzung mit Vertretern der gegenwartig zunehmenden nach-priesterschriftlichen Ansetzung nicht-priesterschriftlicher Texte eine eigene These zur Genese von Gen 1-3. Dabei untersucht Buhrer den Text, die literarische Gestaltung und den theologischen Aussagegehalt beider Schopfungserzahlungen und vergleicht diese miteinander. Ausserordentlich strittig ist die Datierung der Paradieserzahlung. Daher legt Buhrer einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf die Frage nach der relativ-chronologischen Einordnung von Gen 2f mithilfe von Text- und Motivvergleichen. Hierbei kommt er zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Paradieserzahlung vor-priesterschriftlich zu datieren ist und weder signifikant weisheitlich noch deuternomisch-deuternomistisch beeinflusst ist.
