Ciceron, Les Devoirs
by Ciceron and edited by Maurice Testard, notes by Stephane Mercier
English summary: In this treatise addressed to his son in 44 BCE, Cicero examines the question of duty and appropriate action. The first book explores the concept of honesty as a criterion of moral action, while the second and third examine the concept of utility and honesty, concluding that nothing that is dishonest can be useful.
