The book is meant for those looking for methodological-hermeneutic orientation regarding the interpretation of New Testament texts which demonstrates responsible scholarship and which is attuned to present-day concerns. In general it deals with a method that is governed by each fresh act of reading. The person doing the interpreting observes himself in his perception of the text. He uses obstacles to his understanding in order to selectively and purposefully take up findings of historical-critical research, so that the act of reading can be continued and a dialogue with the sense of the text can be stimulated.
