Die vorliegende Dissertation an der theologischen Fakultat der Universitat Freiburg/Schweiz gehort in den Bereich der theologischen Grundlagen- und Quellenforschung. Der Verfasser weist einen erheblichen Einfluss zweier syrischer Vorlagen – Nemesios von Emesa und Johannes von Damaskus – auf die thomasische Lehre in der Summa Theologiae nach. Es handelt sich dabei um die Traktate Uber die menschlichen Handlungen (I-II, qq. 6-17) und Uber die Leidenschaften der Seele (I-II, qq. 22-48). Mittels dieser Quellen kommt authentisches aristotelisches und stoisches Gedankengut aus der Tiefe der Antike in das Hauptwerk des Aquinaten.
