In antiquity, prophecy functioned as a means of (political) decision-making, which is why the trustworthiness of prophetic words had to be verified. Ruth Ebach examines the criteria in the Old Testament used in dealing with prophetic words as they are to be found in literary prophecy and in legal texts.
Alttestamentliche Prophetie ist Teil der altorientalischen und antiken Divination. Da sie der Entscheidungsfindung im politischen Diskurs dient, ist ihre Verlasslichkeit zu uberprufen. Ruth Ebach fragt nach dem Umgang mit prophetischen Ankundigungen, die sich nicht erfullen – v.a. im Pentateuch, dem Deuteronomistischen Geschichtswerk, bei Jeremia, Ezechiel, Micha und Jona. Zusatzlich zur inneralttestamentlichen Kriterienbildung zum Umgang mit prophetischen Worten untersucht sie die narrativen Texte, in denen die erzahlten Ereignisse (scheinbar) von den angesagten abweichen. Es zeigt sich, dass und wie durch prophetische Worte die Deutung der erlebten und erinnerten Geschichte gesteuert wird. Das Erfullungskriterium (Dtn 18; Jer 28) erhalt so seine Rolle im prophetischen Diskurs der nachexilischen Zeit. Die alttestamentlichen Texte werden dabei vergleichend in ihre antike Umwelt eingeordnet und auch der fruhe nachalttestamentliche Umgang mit Falschprophetie wird betrachtet.
