Goumegous Buch rekonstruiert den Zusammenhang von wissenschaftlichem Traumdiskurs, ästhetischem Traumbegriff und literarischer Ausgestaltung von Traumtexten an drei Beispielen. Zu Beginn der Moderne bleibt der Traumbegriff bei Nerval in Absetzung vom protopsychiatrischen Traumdiskurs seiner Zeit literarischen Traditionen verhaftet und die Traumerzählung in Aurélia an den fiktionalen Kontext ge-bunden. Für Bretons Auseinandersetzung mit Psychologie und Psychoanalyse ist kenn-zeichnend, daß er den Traum in erster Linie für die surrealistische Ästhetik in Anspruch nimmt. Michel Leiris schließlich, der exemplarisch für die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts steht, entwickelt in der Règle du jeu, nun ohne explizite Bezugnahmen zu Wissensdiskursen, einen Traumbegriff, der den Traum zum Paradigma des Poetischen schlechthin macht.
