Der Jakobusbrief hat es seinen Auslegern noch nie leicht gemacht. Viele Fragen zu Theologie, Intention, Adressaten, Struktur, Tradition und den Abfassungsverhaltnissen sind bis heute umstritten. Methodische Sorgfalt und umfassende Reflexion sind deshalb bei der Interpretation geboten. Es gilt vor allem, den Gedankengang des Jakobusbriefes moglichst genau nachzuzeichnen. Neben diese Aufgabe tritt die kritische Wurdigung der gerade in jungerer Zeit reichlich erschienenen Sekundarliteratur mit ihren Ansatzen und Vorschlagen. Besonders im Blick auf die theologiegeschichtliche Verortung des Briefes bevorzugt der Autor einen induktiven Ansatz. Entscheidend ist somit nicht etwa die Identifizierung des Verfassers, sondern die Relation des Jakobusbriefes zu anderen fruhchristlichen Dokumenten(Paulus, Matthaus, Apostolische Vater). Insgesamt ist der Jakobusbrief am besten als eine Stimme am Ende des 1. Jahrhunderts zu verstehen. Er will – in der Form eines “Diasporabriefes” – die Christen davor bewahren, sich an die “Welt” zu verlieren, und sie daran erinnern, das “Ziel” zu erreichen. Dafur greift er auf eine breite Traditionsfulle zuruck.
