Warum gibt es so viel Leid in der Welt? Warum werden tausende Menschen in blutigen Kriegen getotet oder fallen Naturkatastrophen und heimtuckischen Krankheiten zum Opfer? Und wie kann ein allmachtiger und moralisch vollkommener Gott all diese Ubel dies zulassen? Das Theodizeeproblem als die wohl schwerste Herausforderung des Gottesglaubens steht nach wie vor auf der theologischen und religionsphilosophischen Agenda. Auch angesichts eines Milliarden Jahre dauernden leidvollen, scheinbar ziellosen Evolutionsprozesses und naturalistischer Gegenentwurfe befindet sich das theistische Bekenntnis schon langer in einer tiefgreifenden Legitimationskrise. Vorliegende Studie greift die Theodizeedebatten der jungeren Vergangenheit auf und legt den Fokus auf einen alternativen Ansatz, der ausgehend von der Prozessmetaphysik Alfred N. Whiteheads das Denken der Prozesstheologie in den Blick nimmt. Dafur werden ausgewahlte Positionen der prominenten Free-Will-Defense und der Prozesstheodizee mit ihren jeweiligen Begrundungsgangen prasentiert und diskutiert. In einer kritischen Wurdigung der beiden gegeneinander gestellten Ansatze wird schliealich fur das Prozessparadigma argumentiert, dem es mit seinem alternativen Gotteskonzept gelingt, das Problem des Ubels erheblich zu entscharfen.
