This four-volume scholarly edition presents central works of the Catholic theologian, natural and social philosopher Franz von Baader (1765-1841) for the first time in a text-critical edition and made accessible through explanatory notes, detailed indexes and editorial reports. The selection of texts ranges from Baader’s early work to his late years and thus illuminates the coherent development of his philosophising. The second volume contains six essays from Baader’s middle creative period (1808-1818), the decade in which the constellation of so-called Munich Romanticism took place in the personal encounter between Baader, Schelling, Ritter, Jacobi and Schubert. In the reception of Boehme and Saint-Martin, the texts show the deeper kinship between Baader’s mysticism and natural philosophical speculation and represent in an exemplary manner the transition to the later comprehensive works such as the “Fermenta Cognitionis” and the “Speculative Dogmatics”.
