Veronika Ritt-Benmimoun stellt in ihrer Studie ethnographische Texte und Erzahlungen im arabischen Beduinendialekt der sudtunesischen Nefzaoua-Region vor. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt dabei auf Texten aus der Oase Douz, die von dem sesshaft gewordenen Stamm der Marazig bewohnt wird. Nach einer ausfuhrlichen Einleitung zur sudtunesischen Nefzaoua-Region und den Beduinenstammen, die sich dort niedergelassen haben, legt Ritt-Benmimoun alle 82 Texte in Transkription und deutscher Ubersetzung vor. Ihr thematischer Schwerpunkt ist die Auseinandersetzung zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart sowie die Beschreibung traditioneller und moderner Tatigkeiten der beduinischen Gesellschaft. Die beduinische Vergangenheit, das Wustenleben und einzelne Wustentiere werden ebenso beschrieben wie wichtige Feste und Traditionen. Erzahlungen zu “Ehre und Schande” zeigen, dass diese Werte im Leben der sich immer noch als Beduinen wahrnehmenden Gesellschaft eine sehr zentrale Rolle spielen. Abschliessend wird zudem auf Texte zur Volksreligion und insbesondere zur Heiligenverehrung eingegangen.
