The Master of Rabenden is one of the great unknowns among late gothic wood-workers. A good argument can be made that this master is identified with the wood sculptor Sigmund Haffner, who maintained a respected workshop in Munich around 1500. The most important work from his workshop is the Rabender Altarpiece. The high artistic quality of Sigmund Haffner it attested to not only the sculptures with their subtly composed clothing and the meticulous physiognomic representation, but also paintings, which are presented in a scholarly fashion for first time in this publication. German text.
