English summary: Commentaries are an essential part of Sanskrit literature, a necessary accompaniment of often obscure and difficult original texts. Although Western scholars long examined Sanskrit literature through the lens of Greek and Latin grammatical texts, the present work allows readers to approach this literature as those who wrote it and read it did, entering into the mental universe of its authors and readers.
