Das Repertoire Geographique ist langst zu einem unentbehrlichen Handbuch in der Altorientalistik geworden. Mit dem betrachtlichen zeitlichen Abstand von 9 Jahren folgt auf Teil 1 des Bandes 12 des Repertoire Geographique des Textes Cuneiformes nun dessen zweiter Teil, der die Toponyme und Gewassernamen Syrien-Palastinas aus den keilschriftlichen Quellen des 2. und 1. Jt. v. Chr. enthalt. Der neue Band ist aber nicht nur fur Assyriologen von Interesse, sondern ebenso fur Agyptologen, Hethitologen, Theologen (Altestamentler) und Historiker. In ihm gesammelt sind alle Toponyme und Hydronyme der Keilschrifttexte aus den Archiven von Amarna, Ugarit, Alalach, Emar/ Meskene und Ekalte/ Mumbaqa sowie der sonst bekannt gewordenen Texte vom Euphrat und aus der Levante. Es handelt sich also um Orte der Region, die als Brucke zwischen den Grossmachten Hatti, Agypten und Assyrien vor allem in der zweiten Halfte des 2. Jt. v. Chr. grosse Bedeutung besass, weshalb den Lokalisierungen besondere Wichtigkeit zukommt. Wenn es auch nicht Ziel des Repertoire Geographique des Textes Cuneiformes ist, diese Lokalisierungen selbst vorzunehmen, so ist doch eine kritische Sichtung alterer und neuerer Vorschlage vorgenommen und in den Literaturangaben vermerkt worden. Deshalb ist dieser Band ein unverzichtbares Referenzwerk fur jeden, der sich mit historischen oder historisch-geographischen Fragen des Vorderen Orients im 2. Jt. v. Chr. beschaftigt. Er erganzt das Kartenwerk des Tubinger Atlas des Vorderen Orients, in dem sechs Kartenblatter uber den geographischen Raum in der genannten Periode bereits publiziert wurden.
