Die Grammatik behandelt die offizielle Staatssprache der heutigen Turkei, die nach Uberzeugung des Verfassers durchaus identisch mit der Staatssprache des einstigen Osmanischen Reiches ist – trotz aller Sprachreformbewegungen. Mit Rucksicht auf die nur an der heutigen Sprache interessierten Benutzer ist die Grammatik zwar in der seit 1928 eingefuhrten Lateinschrift gehalten, aber sie nimmt auch Bezug auf die fruhere arabische Schriftform. Die betreffenden Abschnitte sind auf die Bedurfnisse des Orientalisten zugeschnitten, der ja stets auch Einblick in das Arabische und Persische hat und sich daher rasch in der Materie zurechtfindet. Als besonders begrussenswert wird es der angehende Orientalist vielleicht empfinden, dass das Lehrbuch auch die wichtigsten ausgestorbenen Formen auffuhrt. Durch entsprechende Druckanordnung und Verwendung wissenschaftlicher Umschrift fur ausgestorbenes Sprachgut ist fur eine ubersichtliche Trennung der wissenschaftlichen und der praktischen Belange gesorgt.
