L’ordre suivi dans ce fascicule est chronologique, depuis les origines a l’epoque geometrique jusqu’a la fin de ces styles, au crepuscule du IVe siecle avant notre ere. Les planches sont d’excellente qualite, executees d’apres les cliches du photographe du Louvre, M. Chuzeville. Le texte a ete redige avec beaucoup de soin et de competence, comportant pour chaque vase une description precise et une datation qui s’appuie sur des pieces de comparaison diligemment rassemblees. L’auteur donne un tableau tres complet de l’evolution d’un style et d’un art qui meritent beaucoup plus d’estime et d’attention qu’on ne leur en accorde d’habitude. Elle a insiste non seulement sur les representations, dont elle donne des interpretations souvent nouvelles, mais sur la forme des vases, qu’aident a comprendre des profils dessines au trait dans le texte. Deux innovations caracterisent ce fascicule: la reference, pour indiquer nettement le coloris des argiles, au Catalogue de Munsell et, groupees dans un appendice, les analyses executees par les laboratoires des Musees de France et par le laboratoire de l’Universite d’Oxford.
