Review - French L'Hades celeste est un theme de pensee qui caracterise tout un millenaire de la philosophie et de la religion antiques. Cet ouvrage met au jour, dans la longue duree de la pensee paienne, l'existence d'un lieu purgatoire, lieu intermediaire de purification pour l'ame. En ce sens, il dialogue avec la these de Jacques Le Goff, selon laquelle le purgatoire a ete invente au milieu du XIIsiecle, et ouvre de nouvelles perspectives. En situant cette doctrine dans l'histoire de l'eschatologie et de la cosmologie, du IVsiecle av. J.-C. au VIsiecle ap. J.-C., l'auteur montre que ce lieu purgatoire est un carrefour majeur de la pensee antique.
