This previously unpublished text retraces the restructuring of French public debt after the disastrous System of Law in 1721. La monarchie dite absolue refusa un defaut brutal et choisit de restructurer sa dette creancier par creancier, pour concilier l'interet du public avec celui des particuliers . Les architectes de cette operation d'une complexite inouie en firent ecrire l'histoire, publiee ici pour la premiere fois, detaillant motifs, principes et methodes. L'introduction replace l'operation du Visa dans son contexte et en fait le bilan. Un des appendices traite l'affaire de corruption, severement reprimee, qu'elle occasionna.
