On the occasion of the fifth centenary of the Reformation, it seemed stimulating to initiate a theological debate between Catholics and Protestants on positions which even today seem to separate the two traditions. For example, are the famous exclusive formulas of the Reformation (the sola) still a matter of discussion, or even opposition? In order to answer this question, six Protestant and five Catholic theologians discussed one-on-one the respective expressions sola gratia, sola scriptura/solo verbo, sola fide and solus Christus, as well as the present ecumenical situation; these rereadings are preceded by an evaluation of the anniversary of the Reformation and followed by a reflection on the question, What is a Lutheran subject?
