Les developpements recents de la recherche prehistorique a Chypre ont profondement renouvele notre connaissance du Neolithique chypriote, periode de longue duree etalee du IXe au debut du IVe millenaire avant notre ere. De nouvelles informations ont ete obtenues sur les origines de cette periode, ses liens avec le continent, l’elaboration de la culture de Khirokitia, l’evolution des architectures, l’identite et la mise en place des especes cultivees, le role respectif de l’elevage et de la chasse, les transformations de l’environnement sous l’effet des impacts anthropiques, les rites funeraires et les caracteres anthropologiques. Un bilan de ces recents acquis est dresse dans cet ouvrage qui rassemble les contributions a un colloque organise en 2001 par le Departement des Antiquites de Chypre et l’Ecole francaise d’Athenes.
