Au premier rang de la litterature funeraire de Basse Epoque, le Livre de parcourir l’eternite est une oeuvre d’une richesse et d’une complexite exceptionnelles, dont l’originalite reside dans l’inventaire des places sacrees visitees par le defunt et surtout dans le catalogue de fetes et rites auxquels il participe. Aux documents deja connus, dont le P. Leyde T32, s’ajoutent aujourd’hui une serie de paralleles supplementaires – une douzaine de papyrus hieratiques inedits, un papyrus demotique et l’inscription d’un couvercle de sarcophage. Les 19 versions de provenance variee, datees de l’epoque greco-romaine autorisent l’etablissement definitif du texte, l’analyse detaillee de ses elements, la mise en valeur de ses structures. Une etude axee sur l’articulation des actes du defunt, de l’espace et du temps revele la nature de la finalite de l’ouvrage, construit dans une perspective essentiellement chronologique. Par sa thematique funeraire, ses developpements geographiques, liturgiques et calendriques, le Livre de parcourir l’eternite est l’une des plus remarquables syntheses religieuses de l’Egypte tardive.
