Le anfore greco-occidentali dalle necropoli di Himera (VI-V sec. a.C.)

Lo studio delle anfore del mondo antico, grazie al notevole livello di analisi specialistiche raggiunto negli ultimi anni, ha portato a una conoscenza sempre maggiore delle tematiche legate alle dinamiche dei trasporti lungo le rotte marine e ai rapporti tra luoghi di provenienza dei prodotti alimentari contenuti nelle anfore, alla loro distribuzione e ai principali centri di committenza. In questo volume vengono presentati i risultati della ricerca sulle anfore greco-occidentali rinvenute nelle necropoli di Himera, databili tra gli inizi del VI e il 409 a.C., data della distruzione e dell’abbandono della colonia. Facendo seguito al primo studio, dedicato alle anfore fenicio-puniche, sono state prese in considerazione 554 esemplari, utilizzati come contenitori nelle sepolture infantili; attraverso lo studio formale dei vasi e con l’ausilio di approfondite analisi mineralogiche e chimiche sulle argille e stato possibile individuare gran parte dei numerosi centri che adottarono, tra VI e V sec. a.C. questa peculiare forma per commercializzare e diffondere le proprie produzioni agricole, legate prevalentemente al vino. Attraverso la lettura delle anfore trovate ad Himera, punto di arrivo dove questi contenitori pervenivano lungo una delle rotte piu dinamiche del mondo tirrenico, possiamo leggere la crescita e lo sviluppo di questa forma, di cui gli esemplari piu antichi sono riferibili alla produzione di Sibari, agli inizi del VI sec. a.C.; ben presto il tipo venne copiato ed assunto come forma peculiare da tante colonie greche di Sicilia e Magna Grecia, fino alla lontana Marsiglia, a Corcira, Butrinto e Corinto. Inoltre, la popolarita di questa tipologia e attestata dal fatto che essa venne prodotta anche in centri anellenici, come nel caso degli emporia punici di Palermo e Solunto e nel centro indigeno di Entella. Lo studio costituira in futuro un solido punto di riferimento per la classificazione delle numerosissime anfore greco-occidentali rinvenute negli scavi archeologici di quasi tutti i contesti arcaici e classici del Mediterraneo centro-occidentale e dei relitti subacquei naufragati lungo le rotte dei commerci.
