La Via Aurelia, pilastro infrastrutturale romano, continua a suscitare l’interesse degli studiosi di topografi a anti ca. A parti re dal fondamentale studio del 1968 dell’Isti tuto di Topografi a Anti ca dell’Università Sapienza di Roma, e fi no a tempi recenti , l’attenzione si è concentrata soprattutto sui primi secoli di vita della strada. Questo volume propone un’analisi complessiva del tratto da Roma a Cosa, lungo la costa dell’Etruria meridionale, integrando in modo innovati vo fonti archeologiche, itinerarie, cartografi che e letterarie per restituire una visione d’insieme dell’evoluzione del tracciato nel tempo.
Superando la visione pessimisti ca accreditata dal poeta Rutilio Namaziano agli inizi del V secolo d.C., lo studio delinea una storia più arti colata dell’età post-classica, in cui nuove evidenze archeologiche rivelano vitalità, adattamento e continuità d’uso della strada. L’indagine, fondata su metodi consolidati della topografi a anti ca e dell’archeologia dei paesaggi e su approcci innovati vi alla mobilità storica, off re una lettura critica di fonti di varia natura e ricompone un paesaggio dinamico di mobilità e interazioni tra età romana e altomedievale.
Quest’opera ridefinisce il significato storico della Via Aurelia, contribuendo al dibatti to sulle infrastrutture, la connettività e le trasformazioni culturali dell’antichità, e testimonia la perdurante eredità delle strade romane nel modellare il tessuto socio-economico dei territori attraversati.
