English summary: In post-war Italy, an intellectual Christian-Democrat updates and elaborates the accepted political myth about clemency towards the conquered based on the Roman government’s model. The corresponding stereotype of Cartage’s injustice, proposed once again without discernment by Gonella, makes it worth while to repeat the reasons presented by the opposition to the peace treaty which is also shared by the communist heterodox Terrancini.
