This study, which focuses on the unity of Granger’s writings, underlines the originality of French philosophy in the 20th century. Avocat critique de la formalisation, compagnon de route vigilant du structuralisme, c’est aussi un observateur attentif des sciences humaines du vingtieme siecle. Mais, plus encore qu’une epistemologie comparative, son oeuvre constitue une ambitieuse metaphysique du singulier et une tres originale reformulation de la rationalite pratique. Sa reflexion conjoint en effet engagement ontologique et souci critique au service d’une philosophie transcendantale de l’experience concrete. Existentialisme atypique, cette pensee dialectique des formes symboliques fait de la rationalite un labeur inacheve. Parce que le grain de la realite n’est pas donne, mais conquis a l’issue d’un long detour objectivant, la philosophie prend la forme operatoire d’une hermeneutique rigoureuse. La nostalgie de l’individuel designe le mouvement intime de ce rationalisme de la mediation minutieuse. Cette etude, qui s’appuie sur l’integralite de l’oeuvre publiee de Gilles-Gaston Granger, en souligne pour la premiere fois l’originalite dans la pensee francaise du vingtieme siecle.
