This volume explores Patocka’s seminal thinking on the problem of the original, given world (Lebenswelt), its structure and the human position in it. French text. French description: Ce livre, consacree a la pensee de Jan Patocka se penche dans sa premiere partie sur la preoccupation majeure qu’est l’elucidation de la donation du monde comme tel et du mode d’etre originaire de l’homme au monde de la vie. Ce theme marquant, revelateur de la profonde influence d’Edmund Husserl et de ceux qui, autant en France qu’en Allemagne, en ont entrepris une lecture critique, recoit ensuite l’eclairage d’un second foyer systematique avec une serie d’etudes sur la conception patockienne de l’historicite de l’existence humaine, plus ouverte a l’inspiration heideggerienne. Le monde naturel et l’histoire sont les deux grands themes de la pensee de Patocka, themes qui, se conjuguant et s’opposant dans un mouvement complexe d’approximation et de distanciation vis-a-vis des deux fondateurs de la phenomenologie, entretiennent une relation de tension caracteristique de l’ensemble de son oeuvre, tels–pour reprendre l’expression de Paul Ricoeur–les deux foyers d’une ellipse. Sachant comprendre et integrer meme les experiences les plus negatives de l’existence humaine et reposer la question de leur sens, la philosophie de Patocka comporte par ailleurs un moment expressement dissident, lie a l’importance centrale qu’elle accorde a la liberte de l’esprit et qui implique une prise de distance radicale avec le monde donne. Le volume se clot sur cette transcendance constitutive de la vie philosophique, qui ne conduit pas chez Patocka a une position contemplative, en dehors du monde , mais peut, en tant que pensee engagee, former directement la vie pratique.
