Ecclesiastes, the biblical book of Qohelet (or “Preacher”), has always held a unique fascination. Annette Schellenberg provides an overview of the main topics of Qohelet’s theology and demonstrates its traditional historical correlations with other writings from the Old Testament and its world. In the attached comments section, she subsequently brings out the very experiences that triggered Qohelet’s contemplations. She concludes that these contemplations lead him to a philosophy of life that is anything but pessimistic.
