Die Mitarbeiter der Dresdner Dependance der Forschungsstelle für Personalschriften legen mit diesem Band einen Katalog ausgewählter Leichenpredigten und sonstiger Trauerschriften vor, der einen im Kernland der Reformation entstandenen Bestand erschließt. Er enthält Drucke der Sächsischen Landesbibliothek Dresden, die diese seit 1927 erworben hat. Die Mehrzahl der Drucke gelangte in den Nachkriegsjahren in den Besitz der Bibliothek und ist erst teilweise katalogisiert. Der Katalog weist 1.293 Stücke nach, die aus der Zeit zwischen 1571 und 1799 stammen. Sie werden durch 16 Register in einem zweiten Teilband erschlossen. 743 Adressaten gehören dem niederen Adel an, wohingegen 120 Quellen Angehörigen des Hochadels gewidmet sind. In rund 220 Drucken werden Gelehrte und Seelsorger gefeiert, darunter auch 13 Hof- und Oberhofprediger wie die Dresdner Jacob Weller von Molsdorf, Martin Geier, Johann Andreas Lucius, Philipp Jacob Spener, Georg Green, Samuel B. Carpzov und Gottlob Friedrich Seligmann.
