Jena, die Stadt an der Saale, umgeben von Weinbergen und den Burgen des Saaletales, wurde im Zuge der Reformation zur Universitatsstadt. Als solche pragt sie seither streitbar und wandlungsfahig das Geistesleben weit uber Deutschland hinaus. Gleichwohl ist Jena die geschichtstrachtige Unbekannte unter den Stadten der Reformation. Zahlreiche Orte und Schatze kunden aber noch heute von den reformatorischen Einflussen in der “Lichtstadt”. Dieses Journal fuhrt zu jenen Schatzen und Orten und damit zugleich durch die Jahrhunderte der Stadtgeschichte: zum “Schwarzen Baren”, in dem der als Junker Jorg getarnte Martin Luther 1522 nachtigte und 1524 mit Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt stritt; zur originalen Grabplatte Luthers in der Stadtkirche, als einem Sinnbild lutherischen Andenkens; und zur Universitat, die zum Zentrum des Luthertums und spater zum Hort der Aufklarung wurde. Der Streifzug fuhrt schliesslich in die Umgebung Jenas, in die Dorfer mit ihren Kirchen und Burgen, die von der Vielfalt der reformatorischen Entwicklungen im mittleren Saaletal zeugen.
