Review - French Ce livre est un examen de la langue poetique de Sponde, heritiere d'une tradition elaboree par le milieu calviniste genevois. D'abord proclamee par Calvin, cette esthetique a ete pensee et mise en oeuvre par des theologiens, des ecrivains et des poetes comme Beze, Duplessis-Mornay, Chandieu, Goulart et quelques autres. L'evolution de la poesie protestante menera a la fin du XVIsiecle aux chefs-d'oeuvre de trois grands poetes reformes, Du Bartas, D'Aubigne, Sponde, dont les reussites ont ete forgees dans la tourmente des guerres de religion. L'echo de ces troubles se retrouve chez Sponde, mais traduit dans une meditation plus intellectuelle qu'emotive et dans des oppositions affranchies de la brutalite des faits et transposees en pure spiritualite.
