Die Bandbreite reicht vom manieristischen Hellbrunner Schlossgarten aus dem fruhen 17. Jahrhundert bis zu Anlagen aus der Zeit des beginnenden 20. Jahrhunderts. Die Vegetation (wie Hecken, Blumen und Rasenflachen) sowie kunstlerisch-architektonisch gestaltete Kleinarchitekturen (wie Brunnen, Statuen und Pavillons) sind Teil einer grossen Gesamtkomposition. Trotz kleiner Erfolge im Denkmalschutz sind alte Garten und Parks immer noch gefahrdet. Die Leserinnen und Leser werden daher eingeladen, die Vielfalt der Gartenanlagen zu entdecken und die Notwendigkeit ihres Schutzes zu erkennen.
