English summary: In the past twenty years, due to the development of high-resolution techniques brain research has made enormous progress in the interpretation of neural processes; not only has this attracted plenty of media attention, it also had repercussions in other sciences, leading to a great diversification into scientific fields whose names begin with the prefix “neuro”. As early as in 2004, eleven leading German neuroscientists published a manifesto on the present and future of brain research, in which they anticipated considerable reverberations in our image of mankind and called for an intensive dialogue between the humanities and neuroscience. In January 2012 the Evangelische Forschungsakademie held an interdisciplinary symposium to address these important questions.
