English summary: Gershom Scholem is not only considered a modern classic in the area of Jewish Mysticism, the research discipline he founded, but also as an original thinker in 20th century Judaism. The relationship between Germans and Jews, which Scholem always scrutinized particularly critically, was part of his life in different periods: as a school pupil in the German Empire, as a student in the Weimar Republic, as a professor in Jerusalem after his emigration while relatives and friends such as Walter Benjamin were fleeing Nazi persecution, and eventually as an internationally, well-renowned Israeli scholar, who came to the Federal Republic more and more often in order to give lectures. This volume combines contributions and previously unpublished source material on his biography, his fellow academics and on the research topics that connected Scholem to Germany.
