Der Reisebericht der 1507 angetretenen Pilgerreise des Kufsteiners Martin Baumgartner
Als der Kufsteiner Bergwerksbesitzer Martin Baumgartner 1507 zu einer Pilgerreise ins Heilige Land aufbrach, gewann er den ortlichen Schulmeister Georgius als Reisebegleiter. Die Pilger bereisten Palastina, Agypten, die Sinai-Halbinsel und Syrien. Nach der Ruckkehr gestaltete Georgius, inzwischen Kartauser in Gaming, das Reisetagebuch zu einem umfangreichen lateinischen Reisebericht. 1594 bearbeitete der evangelische Pastor Christoph Donauer den Text im protestantischen Sinne. Seinen Streichungen fielen fast alle religiosen Aspekte der Reise zum Opfer. Die hier gebotene textkritische Edition berucksichtigt beide Textversionen, bietet also die innerhalb der Pilgerliteratur einzigartige Moglichkeit des interkonfessionellen Vergleichs. Eine Ubersetzung erschliesst den in stilistisch ansprechendem Humanistenlatein verfassten Originaltext einem breiteren Publikum.
