The present work is a study of the first generation of jurist-humanists’ (early 16th century) clash with the medieval tradition of banning-exile. Focusing on the works of Andrea Alciato (1492-1550), the main representative of that generation, the research then is extended to Guillaume Bude (1468-1540) and Ulrich Zasius (1461-1535), with the intention of giving voice to a dialogue between the members of the so-called Humanistic Triumvirate. From the comparison between the three, a common and widespread European cultural framework emerges, within which the continuity of the humanistic doctrine with respect to the medieval tradition of the banning is enriched by the new contributions of multidisciplinary knowledge, particularly philological-historical and legal, which is characteristic of the culture of the new intellectuals. In the course of the research, this continuity benefits from the philological examination of the sources and emerges as the most significant aspect for a new contribution to studies on the doctrines of “ius” commune on the call.
