English summary: The letters solicit reflections on the relationship between entities and institutions, on the uniqueness of culture, and on the connection between creative capacity and strategic sense. These reflections are born from the intuition of Lombardo Radice, who created Nuovi Doveri in 1907, a publication in which the true interests of the School are highlighted and where the ambition to raise the moral and material conditions of teachers is dominant. The synergy between letters and journals is relevant in the structure of our work, where we endeavoured to give force to the perspicuous insights of Lombardo Radice and their correspondences with daily life and with the problems that afflict the school world, often opposed by central administration. Hence, the examination of women’s education, early school leaving, popular libraries, school’s secular nature, and teacher recruitment and training. Furthermore, we did not want to go without mentioning the inertia of certain public institutions in the face of the very serious problems that the Messina earthquake of December 28, 1908, generated, compared to the spontaneous help offered by ordinary people. Cio nasce dall’intuizione di Lombardo Radice che ha realizzato nel 1907 i Nuovi Doveri, Rivista dove si evidenziano i reali interessi della Scuola e appare dominante l’ambizione di elevare le condizioni morali e materiali degli insegnanti. La sinergia lettere-rivista e rilevante nell’economia del nostro lavoro nel quale si e tentato di dare vigore alle intuizioni perspicue del Radice e dei suoi corrispondenti sul quotidiano della vi-ta e sui problemi che affliggono il mondo della scuola, spesso osteggiato dall’amministrazione centrale. Da qui la disamina dell’istruzione femminile, della dispersione scolastica, delle biblioteche popolari, della laicita della scuola, del reclutamento e della preparazione degli insegnanti. E non abbiamo voluto passare sotto silen-zio l’inerzia di talune istituzioni pubbliche dinnanzi ai problemi gravissimi che il terremoto di Messina del 28 dicembre 1908 aveva generato, a fronte dell’aiuto spontaneo della gente comune.
